The below is a list of some of the bigger electronic journal directories focused on science. Many of the journals listed in these directories are freely available, with new resources being added regularly.

BMJ Journals Online
BMJ publishes a range of peer reviewed health sciences journals online. Journals, except for issues published in the last 12 months are made freely available on the website.

BioMed Central
BioMed Central is an independent publishing house that provides free access to peer-reviewed biomedical research. The site publishes more than 50 on-line journals covering a range of subject areas in biology and medicine.

Free Medical Journals Online
This is a continuously updated resource that contains medical, biomedical and specialist titles of interest to veterinary and animal scientists.

HighWire Press
HighWire Press at Stanford University develops and maintains the Web versions of important journals in biomedicine and other disciplines. Journals that have been published with assistance of HighWire press are freely accessible from this site.

PubMed Central
PubMed Central is a Web based archive of journal literature for all of the life sciences. It is managed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the U.S. National Library of Medicine(NLM).

SciDev.Net
SciDev.Net has been launched with support of the UK Department for International Development (DFID), the Swedish International Development Co-operation Agency (SIDA), and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) in Ottawa, Canada. It is sponsored by the scientific journals Nature and Science, both of which have agreed to provide free access to a limited number of articles every week.
