Every veterinary science student is required to submit an essay for assessment in VETS3018 Animal Behaviour and Animal Welfare Science. Wally McGreevy Prize for Animal Welfare Science
Wally, a crossbred dog rehomed by the RSPCA (NSW), has been attending the University of Sydney since 1997. He is used by the Faculty of Veterinary Science for non-invasive demonstrations and handling classes. Funds from his part time work as an animal actor have been used to set up a student prize.
Established in 2000, the Wally McGreevy Fund provides for a perpetual award given to the BVSc III student who submits the best essay describing developments in Animal Welfare Science over the past 12 months. Written primarily for the veterinary profession, the essays demonstrate how science can be used to enhance the welfare of animals.

APDT - Australia Prize for Canine Welfare Science
The Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT - Australia) is a group of pet dog trainers committed to becoming better trainers through education. Its mission is to enhance the human-dog relationship by educating trainers, other animal professionals and the public and advocating dog-friendly training.

RSPCA Australia Poultry Welfare Science Prize
RSPCA Australia is the federal body of the eight State and Territory Royal Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Australia. The RSPCA works across Australia to prevent cruelty to animals by actively promoting their care and protection.
In 2004, RSPCA Australia established two perpetual prizes for the best essays on poultry and pig welfare science.
