An example article is: Wenker CJ: Anesthesia for Exotic Animals. The Internet Journal of Anesthesiology 1998; Volume 2, Number 3.

Anesthesia and Analgesia Guidelines
For the care and use of animals used in teaching and research at Stanford University. Published by the Department of Comparative Medicine, the manual includes referenced guidelines for veterinary anaesthetics for the following animals:

Anesthesia and Analgesia of Laboratory Animals
Published by the University of Iowa Animal Care Unit this web page details the agents and dosages used in the anaesthesia and analgesia of mice, rats, rabbits, guinea pigs, dogs, cats and macaques.

Altweb Pain Management Database
A database including information about anaesthesia and analgesia for most commonly used laboratory animals, including: rats, mice, primates, dogs, cats, rabbits, pigs, guinea pigs, birds, sheep, fish, and exotic species. The database was developed by Tim Allen of the Animal Welfare Information Center (U.S. Department of Agriculture). This database covers the period 1990 to the present, and is updated quarterly. Records have been drawn from MEDLINE (with records from TOXLINE as well), AGRICOLA, and AGRIS.

Anesthesia Teaching notes
Published by the College of Veterinary Medicine, Michigan State University. This site features a series of handouts and web based information on the following: anaesthesia machine maintenance, small and large animal anaesthesia, closed system anaesthesia, cat intubation, epidural analgesia, methods of providing analgesia.

Local anesthetic techniques
Article written by Ron Mandsager, DVM, DACVA, Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Anesthesiology: Breathing Systems
Part of the Computer Aided Learning website hosted by the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. This online tutorial covers methods of delivering volatile liquid anaesthetic vapour: non-rebreathing and rebreathing. A list of references is included.

Virtual Anaesthesia Textbook
This is a project co-ordinated by Dr. Chris Thompson MBBS FANZCA of the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. The last chapter, written by Pauline Wong, DVM, Dipl ACVA of the Veterinary Anesthesia Consulting Services, Davis, California, USA is about veterinary anaesthesia. It includes information about societies and educational institutions, manuals, equipment, publishers, exotic animal anaesthesia and other links to related sites.

Virtual Anesthesia Machine
The Virtual Anesthesia Machine is published on the web by the University of Florida with support from the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation. The workbook discusses basic concepts in anesthesia machine function and design, explains how to use the Virtual Anesthesia Machine simulation, and contains specific safety-related exercises. Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or higher (a free download) is required to view and print the workbook. Users need to register to use the site (registration is free).

Recent Advances in Anesthetic Management of Large Domestic Animals
Edited by E. P. Steffey, VMD PhD and published by the International Veterinary Information Service this electronic book features chapters discussing the anaesthetic management of horses, swine, camelids and cattle. There are also articles on focused supportive care and pain management. The book is still being completed and new chapters being added regularly. Users must register with IVIS to gain access. Registration is free.

Recent Advances in Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia: Companion Animals
Edited by R. D. Gleed J. W. Ludders of Cornell University and published by the International Veterinary Information Service this electronic book features chapters discussing recent advances in anaesthesia and analgesia with regard to cats, dogs, reptiles, birds, and fish. New chapters are being regularly added. Users must register with IVIS to gain access. Registration is free.

Zoological Restraint and Anesthesia
Edited by Assistant Professor D. Heard, of the University of Florida and published by the International Veterinary Information Service. This electronic book contains chapters on pharmacology, restraint and immobilization equipment, monitoring and supportive care, invertebrates, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. New chapters are being regularly added. Users must register with IVIS to gain access. Registration is free.

Anesthesia and Analgesia: Physiologic Effects of Pharmacologic Agents
Written by G John Benson, DVM, MS, Dip ACVA and published by Yale Animal Resources Center, Yale University, this paper examines the effects of inhalant and injectable anaesthetics and analgesic drugs.

Interpretation of the Normal and Abnormal ECG
Part of the Computer Aided Learning website hosted by the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. The purpose of this program is to aid in the interpretation of the normal and abnormal electrocardiogram (ECG) of various veterinary species under anaesthesia. It consists of an introductory tutorial and case studies.

Case studies in small animal cardiovascular medicine
Created by Mark D. Kittleson, DVM, PhD, Professor, Dept. of Medicine and Epidemiology, UC-Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. The site complements the book Small Animal Cardiovascular Medicine by Mark D. Kittleson and Richard D. Kienle, St. Louis, MO : Mosby, c1998. Real life case studies are presented complete with signalment, history, and physical examination findings. The site also presents ECG results with quiz questions.
