Model Code of Practice for the Welfare of Animals: Land Transport of Cattle
Full text of Standing Committee of Agriculture and Resource Management (SCARM) Report No. 77 published by the CSIRO. "This Code of Practice is intended as a guide for those involved in transporting cattle. It emphasises the responsibilities of the owner of the cattle, or the agent, livestock transporters, attendants and railway officials. It is intended to encourage considerate treatment of the cattle so that transport stress and injury are minimised at all stages of the transport operation." CaDDiS - Cattle Disease Diagnostic System
This site is created by the Veterinary Informatics and Epidemiology (VIE) Research Group, a joint venture of the University of Strathclyde and the University of Glasgow. CaDDiS is a web-based module designed to assist in diagnosis of tropical diseases in cattle. The program calculates the chance of particular diseases based on the presence and/or absence of various symptoms in the animal. Information relating to clinical signs and treatment is also given for the relevant diseases.

Countdown Downunder : the national mastitis and cell count control program
The purpose of this program is to help Australian farmers improve milk quality by implementing measures to reduce the occurrence of mastitis. It features a newsletter and a large amount of information on mastitis and guidelines to manage and prevent this problem.

AUSVETPLAN: Disease strategies
"AUSVETPLAN is a series of technical response plans that describe the proposed Australian approach to an exotic disease incursion". Brucellosis in the Greater Yellowstone Area (1998)
This online book looks at the incidence of brucellosis in the bison population of Yellowstone National Park, the transmission of this disease between cattle and wildlife species, and the efficacy of diagnostic testing and transmission control programs. Project of the Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Sydney. This web page has been constructed to provide an accessible database of studies on quantitative trait loci (QTL) in dairy cattle, providing a summary of each study, and facilitating an easier comparison across studies.

Interactive Bovine In Silico SNP (IBISS)
This database was created at the CSIRO by Rachel Hawken, Wes Barris and Brian Dalrymple. It aims to "create an in silico SNP database by harnessing the vast number of bovine EST sequences available in the public domain". IBISS is also a database of model bovine mRNAs. The mRNAs have a standard and uniform annotation, based on the human orthologues. "IBISS is searchable using human standard gene symbols, Genbank human Refseq accession numbers, Genbank bovine accession numbers, or by text searches of the descriptions and by sequence using BLAST." Users need to register to access the database. Registration is free.

Cow genome resources
Website hosted by the National Center for Biotechnology Information provides access to a collection of cow genome resources. Includes an interactive viewer for genome maps, sequences, and genes.

ARK Database - Cow
"The ARKdb database system provides comprehensive public repositories for genome mapping data from farmed and other animal species, providing a resource similar in function to that offered by GDB or MGD for human or mouse mapping data respectively. Data stored includes details of loci and markers, references/papers, authors, genetic linkage map assignments, cytogenetic map assignments, experimental techniques, PCR primers and conditions and any other data pertaining to genome mapping." The database can be accessed by locus/marker, by published reference or by map.

Bovine genome database
The Bovine Genome Database Consortium includes members from Texas A&M University, University of Minnesota, and CSIRO Livestock Industries. The site includes a QTL viewer and database that provides access to all available public domain bovine QTL data for both dairy and beef traits.

Cattle Genome Mapping Project
Publishes results of a project by US Department of Agriculture Meat Animal Research Center including linkage maps and marker tables. The site also allows the user to search the database for markers by name.

The U.S. Cattle Genome Project
Website supported by the National Animal Genome Research Program (NAGRP). The site consists of a series of links to databases, maps, and other resources.

TIGR Cattle Gene Index Cattle
The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR) is a not-for-profit research institute whose primary research interests are in structural, functional and comparative analysis of genomes and gene products from a wide variety of organisms. The aim of the Bos taurus Gene Index is to "represent a non-redundant view of all Bos taurus genes and data on their expression patterns, cellular roles, functions, and evolutionary relationships.

This report by the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE), published in January 2001, examines issues arising from policy changes relating to the supply and pricing of milk made by federal and state governments in 2000. This manual, published by SafeFood NSW, is a practical guide designed to help dairy licence holders comply with the law and help them have procedures and practices in place to ensure milk and dairy products are safely produced and sold. The manual consists of several chapters in .pdf format.

Australian Manual for Control of Listeria in the Dairy Industry
Produced in July 1999 and published the NSW Food Authority, this manual has been developed to assist the dairy industry in the control of Listeria spp in the dairy processing environment. The manual sets out procedures for the monitoring of Listeria spp, as well as procedures should Listeria spp be detected in dairy food or the environment. The guide to HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) was approved by ARMCANZ (Agriculture Resource Management Council of Australia & New Zealand) to "help the meat industry use HACCP in a logical and practical way and to understand what auditors will require from operators".
