"A web site intended for veterinary students studying Veterinary Anatomy at the University of Minnesota. Study objectives, terminology, commentary, and 10-12 labeled cadaver images with captions are presented for each of 25 labs devoted to carnivore (dog/cat) dissection."
Canine Autonomic Pathways Part of the Web-Based Veterinary Anatomy Instruction created by the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Minnesota. "This Canine Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) web site focuses on visceral efferent pathways that innervate smooth muscle, cardiac muscle, and glands in the dog. The web site presents ANS information in three sections: General Features of the ANS, Sympathetic Pathways, and Parasympathetic Pathways."

Normal Dog Anatomy
Produced by the College of Veterinary Science at Washington State University, USA, this site contains colour images of normal dog anatomy. The initial page has an overall picture of a dog. More detailed information is available by clicking on the organ you are interested in. The University has also created a similar page specifically on the organ systems in cats and dogs.
Image Database This searchable image database has been produced by the College of Veterinary Science at Washington State University, USA. Images present in the database include cross sections of the chest of the dog. It is searchable by image type, image content (eg. surgical, anatomy, diagnostic, parasite, procedure) and by patient information (by species, colour, age gender). A full description of each image may be found by clicking on the "metadata" button.
Color vision in the dog This article was written by Jay Neitz, Timothy Geist and Gerald H. Jacobs from the Department of Psychology, University of California, and was published in Visual Neuroscience 3 (1989) pages 119-125. It has been posted on the Web with permission from Cambridge University Press. Colour vision tests were conducted on 3 domestic dogs (Canis familiaris) and the results of the experiments reinforced the conclusion that dogs have dichromatic colour vision. References have been included. As the article is in PDF format the Adobe Acrobat Reader is required.

It contains information on the disease canine dysautonomia for both dog owners and veterinarians. Veterinarians are encouraged to submit serum samples. Optimal Bromide Therapy and Monitoring

ACVIM, and published on the web by the Veterinary Support Personnel Network (VSPN), an affiliate of the Veterinary Information Network (VIN), this document looks at the use of bromide as an anticonvulsant treatment in dogs. The document is in question and answer format and discusses issues such as when bromide treatment should be used, dosage, interpretation of serum bromide levels, optimal therapeutic range, side effects and bromide treatment as an alternative to phenobarbital therapy.

Genetics and breeds
LIDA: Listing of Inherited Disorders in Animals Published by the Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Sydney, this resource is designed to "gather, collate and disseminate data on the prevalence of inherited disorders among Australian dogs". It is aimed at breeders, veterinarians and buyers of puppies. The database allows users to search inherited disorders by breed group or by organ system and provides details of disorders for each dog breed.
Canine Diversity Project "The Canine Diversity Project is an attempt to acquaint breeders of domesticated Canidae (dogs) with the dangers of inbreeding and the overuse of popular sires." Its website contains resources on genetics, dog breeds, inherited diseases, and diversity.
Canine Inherited Disorders Database This database is a joint initiative of the Sir James Dunn Animal Welfare Centre at the Atlantic Veterinary College, University of Prince Edward Island, and the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association. The site is still under construction however there is already a wealth of information on various inherited disorders and details of which breeds are affected by them.
Guide to Congenital and Heritable Disorders in Dogs
First published by the Association of Veterinarians for Animal Rights and updated in 2000, this document is divided into two sections. Section I outlines the number of congenital and genetically transmitted diseases associated with a particular breed. Section II outlines the names and definitions of diseases mentioned in Section I. The Guide is in .pdf format.
Inherited diseases in dogs A database of "diseases/conditions of pure bred dogs which are likely to be transmitted wholly or partly through a genetic mechanism". Compiled by David Sargan and published by the University of Cambridge, UK. The database contains "disease listings and short descriptions; genetic and molecular genetic summaries where known; and entry points to the literature on each disease". Users can browse by breed or genetic anomaly, or search by keyword.
Genes, dogs, and cancer: annual canine cancer conferences This site provides abstracts of papers presented at the 2001, 2002 and 2003 Annual Canine Cancer Conferences. Proceedings are edited by J.F. Modiano, PhD and published on the web by IVIS (International Veterinary Information Service). Conference papers cover heritable factors that contribute to cancer risk in dogs, the role of genes in canine cancer development, molecular diagnostic tests and therapies, and genomics and cancer susceptibility. Papers are available in HTML and PDF formats.

Dog Genome Resources Website hosted by the National Center for Biotechnology Information provides access to a collection of dog genome resources. Includes full details of the dog genome, sequenced by the Whitehead Institute/MIT Center for Genome Research (WICGR), now the Broad Institute.
DogMap: Canine Genome Mapping Database "DogMap is an international collaboration between 46 labs from 20 different countries towards a low resolution canine marker map under the auspices of the International Society for Animal Genetics (ISAG). A point of emphasis of the DogMap project is the setting up of an internationally accessible database for handling the mapping data."
Dog Genome Project "The Dog Genome Project is a collaborative study involving scientists at the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Oregon, and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. It is aimed at producing a map of all the chromosomes in dogs. Such a map can be used to locate the genes causing disease and those controlling morphology and behavior"
NHGRI Dog Genome Project The Dog Genome Project at the National Human Genome Research Institute (formerly at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center) is working to "develop resources necessary to map and clone canine genes in an effort to utilize dogs as a model system for genetics and cancer research."
