Part of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Internet Classics Archive site, this page provides a full-text English translation of Aristotle's History of Animals. Aristotle's work in zoology was one of the great biological works of the time, and remained an authority for many centuries after his death.
Historical livestock gallery Hosted by Massey University, New Zealand, this website is a collection of images primarily from the collection of Dr F.W. Dry - a foundation lecturer at Massey Agricultural College - as it was then called. Many of the images date from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. There are galleries featuring sheep, cattle, wool, machinery, and rural images.

Bright Sparcs
This site, published by the Australian Technology and Heritage Centre, is a register of more than 4,000 people involved in the development of science, technology and medicine, including the veterinary sciences, in Australia. For each entry a brief biography is supplied, as well as references to archival materials and other bibliographic resources.
Australian Academy of Science - Biographical Memoirs
This site includes over 90 detailed biographical articles about Australian scientists who were Fellows of the Australian Academy of Science. The memoirs were originally published in Records of the Australian Academy of Science, vols 1-4 (1966-80), and include several prominent veterinarians. They have been published on the web as part of the Australian Science Archives Project.
Bibliography of the Biography and History of Veterinary Medicine (VETHIST)
The literature on the history of veterinary medicine is brought together in this database which has been compiled by A.H.H.M. Mathijsen on behalf of the World Association for the History of Veterinary Medicine (WAHVM). The VETHIST database contains more than 13 000 references to books, periodical articles and dissertations, published from the end of the 18th century onwards and is updated regularly. A large amount of biographical information can be sources via this database.

Obituaries and death notices are often good sources of biographical information. There are a number of indexes to obituaries and death notices that have been published on the Internet. Amongst these are:
World Biographical Index (WBI) - Web Access, 4th edition. (K. G. Saur Publishing)
Contains over 2 million short biographical entries for eminent individuals who lived in North and South America, Western and Central Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Oceania. Each entry contains the name, variations of the name, pseudonym, the years of birth and death or years mentioned, occupation, source quoted (archive, fiche number and page) and bibliographic information about the sources used. The Index can be searched by name, occupation, year of birth and archive name.

Max Henry Memorial Library Collection
The Australian Veterinary History Library is a collection of over 800 books and manuscripts. It includes early veterinary textbooks, books about animal health and veterinary science in Australia and books written by Australian veterinarians. A .rtf file (which can be viewed in Word) of the library's catalogue can be downloaded from this site. A .pdf copy is also available.
Five Centuries of Veterinary Medicine: a short-title catalogue of the Washington State University Veterinary History Collection
Published on the Web by Washington State University Press, this site is the catalogue of the Washington State University History Collection. The catalogue is a list of all items held in the collection, as at 1997. Some images are included as part of the catalogue. The site also provides an index of codes used in the catalogue.
Veterinary Medicine : A Sampling of Rare & Interesting Books from the Collections of the Michigan State University Libraries
The Veterinary History Collection of the Michigan State University Library numbers over 1,200 books and manuscripts on a variety of subjects which chronicle the profession from as early as the 14th century. This site is a brief catalogue of a past exhibition from the collection.
Royal Veterinary College Historical Collection
The College was founded in 1791 and since that time many thousands of books, journals, manuscripts, artefacts, and ephemera have been accumulated, representing the history of the veterinary college and the history of the veterinary profession in the United Kingdom. The Historical Collection includes a collection of over 500 artefacts; a photographic archive; a rare book collection; and a paper based archive. The collection is now able to be searched using the RVC's library catalogue. When you reach the catalogue page, just click on the login button to enter, no password is required.
National Library of Medicine - History of Medicine Division
The National Library of Medicine located in the USA, has a very strong collection of materials relating to the history of medicine, including veterinary medicine. Materials held include oral histories, manuscripts, and image collections.
American Poultry Historical Society This website is part of the Vincent Voice Library, Michigan State University, which is a collection of spoken word audio recordings. The purpose of the American Poultry Historical Society is to "find, collect, and preserve records, pictures, materials and objects connected with the development of the poultry industry" The site is an inventory of
spoken word audio recordings which give an oral history of the Society.

Australian Veterinary Association Archives: alphabetical list of subjects
This Web page provides access to a list of documents, organised by subject, that are held in the Australian Veterinary Association Archive Collection.
Directory of Archives in Australia
Originally published by the Australian Society of Archivists in 1992, the Web version of the directory was published in 1996 as part of the Australian Science Archives Project. The Directory can be browsed alphabetically or geographically, and a search function is also available.
The Register of Australian Archives and Manuscripts (RAAM)
Published by the National Library of Australia, this site is a guide to collections of personal papers and non-governmental organisational records held by Australian libraries and archives. The Register can be searched by creator, occupation or keyword.
Material held in the State Library of New South Wales is not included in this Register. For this material search the State Library of NSW Picman index to Pictures and Manuscripts.
Australian Historic Records Register - AHRR
The Australian Historic Records Register is a database describing archival material of historical significance held in private ownership in Australia. The AHRR contains descriptions of over 3,500 collections of private papers and records of business and community organisations. New records have not been added to the database since 1988. The Register can be searched by subject, title, description and register number.

University of Melbourne Archives - search
The Web site is the search page for the University of Melbourne Archives. The Archives can be searched by creator name, collection area or activity. Veterinary related material held in the archives includes, amongst others, material from William Kendall. A brief description of the material held, including compiler, date and historical notes, is provided for each entry. Information Resources on
Veterinary History at the National Agricultural Library Published by the US Department of Agriculture in February 2005. This publication is No. 29 in the Animal Welfare Information Center Resource Series. The site provides an expansive bibliography of veterinary history publications.

This site is the home page of the World Association for the History of Veterinary Medicine. As well as providing information about the Association and its activities, the Web site includes information on veterinary history societies, museums and archives around the world, as well as lists of articles and books on veterinary history, organised by historical period and/or geographic location.
Institute for Ancient Equestrian Studies (IAES)
This site is the home page of the Institute for Ancient Equestrian Studies. The IAES are are "dedicated to conducting archaeological research concerning the origins of horseback riding and its impact on human societies". MedHist: The gateway to Internet resources for the history of medicine MedHist provides a gateway to quality Internet resources on the history of medicine and allied fields. MedHist is free to use, and has been developed by the Wellcome Trust Library for the History and Understanding of Medicine.
