Festuca arundinacea (Tall fescue)

  • cattle, sheep
  • can develop condition all seasons, sporadic and within week of exposure
  • distal dry gangrene, increased respiratory rate, intolerance to heat, reduced production
  • endophyte (Acremonium coenophialum) in USA shown to have ergot alkaloids

Neptunia spp.

  • selenium accumulating plants that can induce selenosis and laminitis in horses
  • seen in specific areas of Queensland
