Website published by the University of Washington. The site publishes details of primate research conducted at the centre.

PrimateLit: a bibliographic database for primatology
PrimateLit is a database covering scientific literature on nonhuman primates. It spans from 1940 to the present and includes all publication categories and many subject areas. The database can be searched in two main ways - a search of the full database, or a search limited to citations indexed in the last six months. User friendly instructions on how to conduct a search are provided. PrimateLit is a collaborative project of the Wisconsin and Washington Regional Primate Research Centers.

International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN)
The home page of the IUCN, this site provides a global index of the state of degeneration of biodiversity; contains information regarding conservation work for all species including primates. Users are able to look up the status of particular species documented in the 2000 IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Veterinary Guidelines for Anesthetics: non-human primates
Published by the Department of Comparative Medicine at Stanford University, USA, these guidelines focus on anaesthetics for non-human primates.

    Wisconsin Regional Primate Research Center
Attached to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA, the Regional Primate Centre home page provides information about the Center as well as links to Primate Info Net and the World Directory of Primatologists.

Refinement and Environmental Enrichment for All Laboratory Animals
Environmental enrichment is the provision of stimuli which promote the expression of species-appropriate behavioural and mental activities in an under-stimulating environment. It also offers information on programs designed to train animals to cooperate during procedures. This site is an annotated bibliographic database for finding information about experimental enrichment for non-primates and primates. It was compiled by Viktor Reinhardt and Annie Reinhardt, of the Animal Welfare Institute, Washington. The database, searchable by keyword, also contains an increasing number of full-text resources.

    Chimpanzee Cultures
This Web site is a collaborative project between a number of primate experts and provides access to an online database that describes the cultural variations in chimpanzee behaviour, and shows behaviour distributions across the long-term study sites in Africa. The two databases available are the Behaviour Definitions database and the examples database. The Behaviour Definitions database includes records of observed behaviours and the examples database includes photos, sketches and video documentation of the observed behaviours. Background information on chimpanzees and research, as well as news in this area of study is also included on the site.

    Nature: Chimp behaviour special
Published by nature this website presents a series of film clips demonstrating chimpanzee behaviour in the wild and in primate sanctuaries.

The Chimpanzee and Human Communication Institute
The Chimpanzee and Human Communication Institute is home to four adult chimpanzees who communicate with humans and each other using American Sign Language. The Institute functions as an educational resource for the Central Washington University and the general public, and works towards inproving the well-being of captive and wild chimpanzees. The site includes information about chimpanzees as a species and the individual chimps at the Institute, research programs, and sections for young children.

    Anatomy

Recommended subject headings on the University of Sydney Library Catalogue are listed below. Please check all related subject headings for comprehensive results.

    Primate Anatomy and Physiology
This Web page is part of a web guide on primates, "Primate Info Net", which is maintained by the Wisconsin Region Primate Research Center, University of Wisconsin, USA. The page contains an extensive list of links, organised into broad headings.

    The eSkeletons Project
The eSkeletons Project, from the University of Texas at Austin, provides an interactive environment in which to examine and learn about skeletal anatomy. Users can choose to view the skeleton of a specific species (human, baboon, and gorilla) or can compare the anatomy between species. The site is an interactive one and includes high quality images of bones, labels of all muscles, articulations, and morphological features, as well as high resolution 3-D images of skeletal elements. A useful glossary of anatomical terms is also provided. Both Quicktime and VRML plugins are required to get the best out of this site.

    Genetics

    Primate Cytogenics Network
The Primate Cytogenetics Network "serves as a resource for the collection and distribution of cytogenetic information on the Web". It is administered by Tim Knight of the Image Analysis Lab at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington "The primary objective of the Primate Cytogenetics Network is to collect and distribute digital karyotypes, ideograms and primate images to assist scientists in comparative cytogenetic studies". The site includes a Cytogenetics References Database, which is a chronological database of over 600 references divided into the following sections:

    • Primate Cytogenetics References 1922-1969
    • Primate Cytogenetics References 1970-1989
