Production Animal Clinical Toxicology
Produced by Dr Robert Dixon of the Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Sydney, this resource is aimed at the undergraduate student and provides an introduction to production animal clinical toxicology with emphasis on Australasian plants.
Veterinary Toxicology Electronic textbook edited by V. Beasley, DVM PhD and R. H. Poppenga, DVM PhD developed from teaching materials and course notes used in teaching veterinary and graduate students at the University of Illinois. Information can be accessed via a table of contents organised by body system, annotated tables of toxicants, and an alphabetical index of toxicants. The book is published by International Veterinary Information Service, Ithaca NY, 1999. Users need to register with IVIS to access materials. Registration is simple and free.
American Board of Veterinary Toxicology (ABVT)
The American Board of Veterinary Toxicology is a group of specially trained veterinarians that aims to inform and educate the public, veterinarians and veterinary medical students about toxicologic hazards to pets, livestock and wildlife. The site contains a series of "Toxicosis of the Month" profiles and links to other relevant information and sites.
Understanding and Coping with Effects of Mycotoxins in Livestock Feed and Forage
A paper published by N.C State University, which includes information on a range of subjects including safe levels of mycotoxins, available mycotoxin data, mycotoxins and animal health, effects of mycotoxins on the health and productivity of production animals and prevention and management of mycotoxins.
DART®/ETIC Database The Developmental and Reproductive Toxicology/Environmental Teratology Information Center Database is published by the U.S. National Library of Medicine. It covers teratology and other aspects of developmental and reproductive toxicology and contains over 100,000 references to literature published since 1965. It can searched by subject terms, title words, chemical name, Chemical Abstracts Service Registry Number (RN), and author. DART/ETIC is part of the TOXNET database group.
FDA Approved Animal Drug Products Database Database of FDA approved animal drugs maintained by the US Food and Drug Administration. The database allows the user to search for approved animal drugs by Ingredients, Trade Name, Dose Form, Approved Species and other parameters.

National Center for Toxicological Research National Center for Toxicological Research (Food and Drug Administration of the US) conducts peer-reviewed scientific research that supports and anticipates the FDA's current and future regulatory needs. This site outlines initiatives in the areas of Food Safety, Bioterrorism, Biotechnology, Information Technology, Fundamental and Applied Research, Antimicrobial Resistance, DNA and Protein Based Technology
and HIV-AIDS. Information on each division and their current research is given as well as other projects.
EXTOXNET- the EXtension TOXicology NETwork EXTOXNET is a cooperative effort of the University of California-Davis, Oregon State University, Michigan State University, Cornell University, and the University of Idaho. Information may be retrieved on various types of pesticide toxicology and environmental chemistry, including discussion of issues of concern, fact sheets and newsletters.

National Toxicology Program (NTP) Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) (US) coordinates toxicological testing programs within the Department, develops and validates improved testing methods; and provides information about potentially toxic chemicals to health regulatory and research agencies, the scientific and medical communities, and the public. The site includes information Factsheets (PDF), publications of reports, toxicological test methods, results of long and short term studies and research. There is a search facility and data of completed studies.
Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) is an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Its aim is to prevent exposure and the adverse human health effects and diminished quality of life associated with exposure to hazardous substances from waste sites, unplanned releases, and other sources of pollution present in the environment. The information is comprehensive and is intended for children and parents, communities and healthcare professionals.

Note that the emphasis is on North-American plant species. Access is by scientific or common name of the plant. Each entry contains the following information: an image of the plant, description, distribution, conditions of poisoning and toxic principles.
Cornell University Poisonous Plants Homepage
Produced the Animal Science Department at Cornell University, this site includes plant images, pictures of affected animals and presentations concerning the botany, chemistry, toxicology, diagnosis and prevention of poisoning of animals by plants and other natural flora (fungi, etc.). Please note that this database is still under construction.

Canadian Poisonous Plants Information System Administered by Derek B. Munro for the Ministry of Supply and Services Canada, this site provides a searchable database of plants (both native and introduced) found in Canada that are poisonous to animals and humans.

It is an illustrated guide to some common poisonous plants in Nova Scotia. It is divided into three sections - algae, fungi and leafy plants.

This resource has been produced by Dr. Julian White who is a widely published clinical toxinologist with over 20 years experience in medicine and toxinology based at the Women's and Children's Hospital, North Adelaide, Australia. The site provides a range of references and information about aspects of toxinology and is divided into sections for snakes, spiders, marine life, and other life. It also features a first aid section.
CSL Antivenom Handbook
This book, published in Australia in 1996 and designed for doctors, gives information on indications and use for all CSL Ltd antivenoms. It also contains a range of general information including first aid and treatment for bites and stings, emergency numbers and what to do if there is an immediate untoward reaction to the antivenom.

Pesticides and veterinary chemicals
Adverse Experience Reporting Program "This is a post-registration quality assurance program established by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority to facilitate responsible management of veterinary chemical products throughout their lifecycle. The Program provides a means for identifying corrective actions necessary to assure continued safety, quality and effectiveness of registered veterinary chemical products". The website also provides an online facility allowing veterinarians and the general public to report an adverse experience directly to the APVMA.
Australian Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Management System (the Cox Report) 2003. A Report provided by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority. The report details a number of proposals for agricultural and veterinary chemical management systems.
FARAD The Food Animal Residue Avoidance Databank is a National Food Safety Project administered through the U.S. Departmentof Agriculture.
"FARAD is a computer-based decision support system designed to provide livestock producers, extension specialists, and veterinarians with practical information on how to avoid drug, pesticide and environmental contaminant residue problems." It includes VetGRAM the Veterinarians Guide to Residue Avoidance Management. The database can be searchd by active ingredient, drug classification, approved species, trade name, or manufacturer. Some areas of the site require users to fill out a free registration form.
