Information Resources on Spaying and Neutering Cats, Dogs and Related Wildlife
Published by the US Department of Agriculture in January 2005. This publication is No. 28 in the Animal Welfare Information Center Resource Series. The site provides an expansive bibliography of publications covering sterilisation and contraception as well as a list of web resources.

Dealing with barking dogs
Brochure published by the Department of Environment and Conservation (NSW). Provides information on how to prevent dogs barking and legal remedies for dealing with barking dogs.

Unwanted Pets: Disposal of Dogs and Cats in a Provincial Australian City
Authored by R.W. Murray, Western Suburbs Veterinary Clinic, Townsville, Queensland, and Rick Speare, Separtment of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, James Cook University, this full text article examines the disposal of dogs and cats in Townsville, Queensland. The paper originally appeared in Australian Veterinary Practitioner, 1995; volume 25, pages 68-72.

Animal Rescue Organisations, Shelters and Pounds

Royal Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Australia (RSPCA)
This site is the home page of the RSPCA. The page provides links to state and regional pages, information about current campaigns, policy statements and papers, and to the RSPCA News.

Wildlife Information and Rescue Service
The NSW Wildlife Information and Rescue Service (WIRES) is the largest wildlife rescue organisation in Australia. WIRES is non profit, with branches operating across NSW. Their site provides access to information about their activities, publications, rescue and care, as well as information on becoming a volunteer for the organisation. Links to regional branches and to related sites are also provided.

New South Wales Animal Welfare League
The NSW Animal Welfare League rehomes abandoned and surrendered animals. The League is a charity organisation with 14 branches throughout New South Wales. The League also enforces the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and promotes responsible pet ownership, desexing and microchipping of companion animals. The site includes details of animals available for adoption from the League.

The New Zealand Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA)
This site is the homepage of the New Zealand Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animala. The NZRSPCA is a voluntary organisation which, through its district branches, provides help to animals and owners 24 hours a day, seven days a week, although the public should expect only genuine emergencies to be dealt with outside normal working hours. As well as information about the Society, the site provides links to information on animal care, current campaigns, news, lost pet resource sas well as a selection of links to other animal welfare and rescue organisations.

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Auckland )
This site is the homepage of the Auckland Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Information about the Society and its services, including pet adoption and lost and found pets, is provided. Links to the Society's magazine and to news are also provided.

Pet Rescue
As well as information about their rescue activities, the Pet Rescue site includes details of animals available for adoption and information about training and keeping animals.

Save-A-Dog Scheme
Save-a-Dog is a non profit organisation, based in Caulfield, Victoria, Australia, that saves and rehouses dogs from pounds. As well as information about their rescue activities, the site includes information about dogs currently available for adoption,

Pound Animal Welfare Scheme (PAWS)
PAWS assists Burwood Pound, located in Sydney, Australia, to rehouse their lost and abandoned animals. Their site includes links to other pounds and shelters, as well as the 'adopt-a-pet' section with photos and descriptions of impounded animals. The site also includes a "Lost Paws" page that provides opening hours and contact details for New South Wales council pounds. The pounds are organised by suburb.

Renbury Farm Animal Shelter
Renbury Farm Animal Shelter is the lost dog, cat and stock pound for Bankstown, Camden, Liverpool and Fairfield City Councils. The site includes details and photos of the impounded animals for each of the local government areas as well as animals available for sale.

Paws 'n' Hooves
Paws 'n' Hooves is an non-profit, voluteer-run animal rescue group, based in Sydney, that works towards saving animals from certain death in pounds and shelters. Its aim is "to rescue these animals and find them permanent loving new homes". Visitors to the site can view details of dogs, cats and horses available for adoption.

NSW Companion Animals Act (1998)
This site provides the full text of the 1998 Act. The Act outlines regulations in relation to the registration and identification of dogs and cats in New South Wales, Australia.
